アトラス・アクシス・irregularities Part of posterior arch missing

On the A-P view, posterior arch is projected for a short distance from leftral mass and to a little right of center small portion of free bone. the rest of posterior arch is no doubt cartilaginous. There was some irregularity in location of calcification と only a small portion of posterior arch calcified . It is reasonable to assume that the free portion of bone is held in place by cartilage which forms the remainder of posterior arch.

On the lateral view the long shadow projecting back from lateral mass is the left side of atlas., as seen on the A-P view, and the other shadow is the piece of free bone. This show shows a more or less normal contour to the superior surface of Axis spinous、 which is another indication thatposterior archis continued cartilage. If no cartilageis present at uncalcified parts of arch, Axis spinous and lamina on that side would be raised for protection.

In most case of uncalcified posterior arch、 we observe that anterior arch of atlas is heavier than normal to compensate.

On the A-P view, there is a line of demarkation or an articulation between Atlas and Axis. アドジャストメント of either segment would be possible. Third dimension may be necessary for an analysis in this case, due to the factthat Atlas is quite high and skull base heavy. Atlas transverse are above the tips of mastoid wohich would offer a problem in contact. The adjusting force could be directed at the lateral mass below transverse, or at body of Axis in an attempt to adjust Atlas.

Analysis of atlas by measures would be difficult in that the two sides of atlas are not the same in formation. It would be necessary here to consider the neural canal と also the relationship of opposing surfaces of articulations in making a listing.
