此書作者-蔡元雲,展示了自己的性格是自覺自己無知,因他一直以愛恩斯坦為英雄亦一直以為他甚麼都知甚麼都懂,但卻在加拿大讀大學時才得知愛恩斯坦剖白了自己並不是認識整個宇宙、整個世界那麼多。這樣作者才頓時醒覺。其次,他擁有同理心及同行者角色。書中有三部分提及這性格,第一書中的年輕人之父母失望,但他卻提議年輕人去他家暫住,好讓年輕人有一個成長空間及避免年輕人與家人磨擦。第二,年輕人成績不佳被迫離校,他願意為這年輕人尋找學校請求給年輕人之一個學習機會。第三,升學對年輕人來說十分吃力,故他年輕人便會逃避亦會無故失蹤及曠課。縱使作者大發雷霆罵過年輕人,但對年輕人來說卻已成習慣沒什麼樣,故作者認為如期這樣勉強年輕人不行,便選擇與他一起同行共渡難關,如:深入了解年輕人的問題所在、願意陪他一起上學、約他喝下午茶等等。這改變了他們之間的相處方式顯得他有同理心及同行者角色
